The Pignose Willy’s
Band
biography
The Pignose Willy’s is a blues/garagerock duo from Haarlem (Netherlands). The band was formed by Joost Varkevisser (ET Explore Me, Pussycat Kill Kill Kill) and Pieter Kamp (Pussycat Kill Kill Kill). The band’s name is inspired by the famous Pignose amp wich the band uses frequently during practice sessions for their harmonica.
The duo’s vile garagetrashblues is defined by Pieter’s powerful bluesharp sounds and Joost’s onemandband arrangement of guitar, drums and raw vocals. The band is inspired by the old masters of blues like Son House, Sonny Boy Williamson, Booker White, Charley Patton and Blind James Jefferson. But also the sound of many garage rock bands including John Schooly, Rev. Beatman, Black Eyed Snakes left their mark on the duo.
In 2011, the band played at festivals like Gideon Music Festival, Sleazefest, Beeckestijnpop, Magneet Festival, Haerlemsche Helden Festival, Lil Hill Festival and they were a guest at 3FM radio. End of 2012, the band was selected for Popronde. In addition, the band was featured on 3voor12’s Hollandse Nieuwe sampler and the 3voor12 Luisterpaal Promo. Also, their song Green Bottle appeared on the Popronde 2012 CD.
At the end of September, the band entered Jan Schenk’s studio to record their first album. The album is mastered by Darius Helfteren, who had worked with band like de Staat, zZz and the Kik.
