Black Bottle Riot – III – Indigo Blues
III: Indigo Blues is the third album by Black Bottle Riot. It is a capricious, intense and personal album on which the band sounds possessed and driven. In the period after the release of the second album Soul in Exile, the gentlemen became closer than ever musically, but privately, band life took its toll. Too much drinking, lost loves, deceased friends and the loss of work and even shelter. The carefree that BBR always radiated is gone. Totally inevitable, the experiences seeped into the lyrics and riffs, which makes III: Indigo Blues more charged than the previous albums.
III: Indigo Blues was recorded in February 2015 and portrays a rock band that grabs you by the throat with various degrees and discharges of melancholy. In contrast to previous albums, the band was forced to adopt a minimalist approach by producer Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt: “During the recording of our previous albums, we always drove a truck full of amplifiers and guitars to the studio, and then spent days perfecting sounds. With Sebastiaan, we don’t have to try that, he knows how to get the band in the right mood and make the songs sound the way they were meant to. Where it hurts, it hurts, and if it hurts, that’s good”’ Simon Snel, singer/guitarist.
Black Bottle Riot has developed, that much becomes clear with III: Indigo Blues. The band seems to have degenerated into a character that is going through a therapeutic process with this album. Wrinkles, gray hair and bloodshot eyes gradually appear. The band is clearly not about beauty and perfection, but about the raw experience that the band has formed over the past two years.
