Gingerpig – Ghost On The Highway

The title of Gingerpig’s new album, Ghost on the Highway, was not chosen at random. It is a reference to Gingerpig’s musical journey, to the passion and drive that has been driving them forward for three albums now. Gingerpig’s founder and frontman, Boudewijn Bonebakker, is clear about it: “Music is my way of staying ahead of my personal ghost on the highway”. Ghost on the Highway is also not just the result of years of deepening Gingerpig’s sound. The ‘sound’ is more than just a goal for Gingerpig. It is the tool with which the story is told. It is precisely the intensity and conviction behind the songs that makes an impression.

Five years ago, Gingerpig’s journey began with the preparations for their first album, the great experiment The Ways of the Gingerpig, based on the conviction that the listener cannot be fooled. Bonebakker and his associates left with a lot of musical baggage and even more ideas and delivered a loving mix of seventies rock, blues, fusion and (post)metal with their debut album. The band had actually set itself only one goal: to make sincere music. While travelling and searching, Gingerpig’s musical focus became sharper, the identity and style of the band matured quickly and the eclectic character of the music got a more recognizable signature. This culminated in the album Hidden from View, on which the organic sound and sincere approach came to the fore even more strongly.

On Ghost On The Highway it is clear that Bonebakker has not yet found peace. Gingerpig sounds more experienced, more intense and harder than ever, and more importantly: the sound of Gingerpig has a characteristic face that perfectly reflects the lyrics. But that restlessness remains. “Mean & lean” through their musical wanderings, the men of Gingerpig make short work of frills and embellishment on Ghost On The Highway and deliver a surprisingly resolute and resounding rock album, not only musically but also lyrically.

Suburban Records

At Suburban Records, we believe that all great music has one thing in common: soul. Soul has the unique ability to communicate happiness, love, sorrow, and anger — all the essential qualities that distinguish an average song from a unique one. When we sign new artists, we look for that soul in their songs and sound, as well as in the stories they tell. Within these parameters, we give our artists total creative freedom, which we consider essential.
