Kris Berry – NOW (Namelessy Objectifying Wonder)
2021 has been all about NOW, Kris released a series of songs in the run-up to her album, such as First Time, Superpower and Kind of Love. The theme is, as the title suggests, simply being in the here and now; embracing what is and stripping away the ego to the point that there is nothing. Each song seeks depth and is an illustration of this fact from the musician’s life. Kris Berry uses her intuitive side to express her feelings, thoughts and insights through her songs and characteristic sound. She also calls her voice ‘my compass’. Always with that sensual, neo-soulful undertone.
The album is unhurried, reflective, rhythmic and expansive in its energy. The release of the songs was also done in a similarly unhurried manner; many tracks from NOW can already be listened to. It is the journey that Berry wants to make with her listeners, with attention to detail. That attention to the songs is also made visual; a film for each song. She worked with director Océane Combeau, who uses the raw details of daily life in her visual art to magnify a feeling.
The journey is now almost complete, resulting in a beautiful album. The artwork was shot by photographer Sjoukje van Gool in the icy water of her own underwater studio. Kris Berry releases her music independently under Off The Hook Records.
