The Gathering – Beautiful Distortion

Atmospheric trip rock band The Gathering releases a new album after 10 years! ‘BeautifulDistortion’ is a typically eclectic album from The Gathering, although it is perhaps their ‘most dynamic and melodic’ album to date. The Gathering’s characteristic electronic rock sound is crowned with warm Scandinavian vocals and beautiful vocal lines from singer Silje Wergeland. Producer AttieBauw (Judas Priest, Scorpions), who also produced The Gathering’s ‘Home’ and ‘How to Measure aPlanet?’ produced, collaborated with them on their 11th full-length studio album. The band started writing and rehearsing for this album several years ago. For the past two years, they have not been able to make music or travel together due to Covid-19. There was a lot of online contact between Norway (Silje) and the Netherlands (the rest). Which was a challenge, but turned out well. Although it took a little longer than expected. The band recorded at Arnold Muhren’s studio in Volendam (Netherlands) and all vocals were recorded at BergenLydstudio (Norway). All band members contributed a lot to the creative process, both individually and together, where possible. That created a lot of diversity in the songs. And in the end all the songs came together beautifully. Producer Attie Bauw managed to contribute to a diverse but coherent and warm album. Mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More). The band’s first full album after 10 years is mixed in Stereo (LP & CD) and Dolby Atmos (streaming) and features original member Hugo Prinsen Geerligs on bass, who returned to the band in 2018.
