Formed in 1988 by former Martyr vocalist Gerard Vangouw, Vangouw emerged from the Dutch heavy metal scene with a clear shift toward melodic AOR and hard rock.
After recording early demos including “A Girl Like You” and “Simoni”, the band gained national recognition through the Dutch TV competition Veronica Star Search, winning the contest in December 1988. The victory quickly transformed what began as a studio project into a fully active band.
Between 1989 and 1991, Vangouw built a strong live reputation in the Netherlands, recorded multiple demos, and signed with Red Bullet Records, working with renowned producer John Sonneveld.
